    Hi all

    Been reading a few of the threads here on the various options but not seeing a single one stop to guide me.

    I have the Nvidia Shield TV - loving it.
    Netflix, streaming shows, streaming games, retro games and the ability to side load apps and use a VPN is great. The price though not huge is a bit high.

    A family member has a 1st gen Fire Stick but its no longer really working for them and they are hampered by the inability to run a VPN while streaming.

    So I was thinking of getting them an upgrade, but not prepared to pay the full whack for the Nvidia, and lets face it without an external SDD you can be limited unless you are sticking with the minimum and just using it for streaming. I had hoped to get maybe the Mi Box S - seems you can game there too and all of the above but I’m seeing reports of not hitting 4K and playback issues.

    I know the reliable and reasonably priced option is the Firestick 4K and it should meet his needs - VPN, sideload, Netflix etc but without the games. And maybe I’m a snob but a 2G Ram just seems wrong to me.

    Has anyone any direct experience of a reasonably priced Nvidia clone and feedback on how reliable it is?
    VPN
    Netflix / Streaming
    Games (may have to drop this)
    Stability / Ease of use.

    You mention 4k and gaming, get the Shield. We have a Shield, a Mibox with Ethernet adapter and a 4k Fire stick and the Shield is in another league completely not just for power but for the ongoing support it gets.

    I have the Shield and the 4K Firestick. I think the Firestick is great, and have no problems using a VPN with it. If the gaming isn't important, just get a Firestick.

    I used to always buy cheap android boxes and smart TV sticks and used to think to myself are these people crazy for paying nearly €200 for a shield.

    I have 3 shields now

    The shield is just an absolute beast
