Is it worthwhile volunteering with an organisation to gain experience for a job if only volunteering one day per week?
    Thanks.

Unless it was a charity.... NO

Never devalue yourself, your colleagues, their industry and working people by working for nothing. Be it one day or five..

you are devaluing your industry, working people and contributing to a ‘race to the bottom’.

If you are going in for a days work they better be giving you a days fair pay Experience ? Sure a great experience to work for sweet fûck all...

Not for the experience alone, but if its to check it out see what the work is like maybe its a charity or for someone considering changing career then its a good idea.

If someone is considering retraining before investing time and money in some area its better to see the reality than have unrealistic expectations about the job.

I have done this at the start of my career although my profession is a unique one (I run poker tournaments). I believe if I didn’t do some events for free I wouldn’t be where I am now. It suited me as I didn’t have many bills to pay so I could afford to do it.

Thanks all, I'm just wanting to get a new different perspective on whether it's a worthwhile thing to do for me. Down the line, im looking to get work as secretary or some kind of office based work, but I have no relevant experience in this area whatsoever, nor do I have qualifications in secretarial work, but I do have a management based honours degree. I recently changed career and it looks like I need to 'start at the bottom' (as it were) to get work in this area.
