Getting a second car checked pre-purchase

    Hi All,

Any suggestions who to use to do a check on a second hand car I am interested in buying. It’s from a car sales company, not a main dealer, and it looks ok but I know nothing mechanically about cars.

I found a company called Dublin diagnostics who charge 120e to call onsite and check it out. Has anyone any experience of these?

Any mechanic you know and trust or get recommendations from friends and family.
It's money well spent to get it checked but of course its not foolproof

Stick a link to the car up here too.

No experience of the above crowd tbh. If you are getting a pre inspection done, make sure it is a place that actually does the diagnostic check.

Some of these guys don't do one. It could end up being very costly in the long run.

Dublin Diagnostics inspected a car I was selling, not buying. He arrived with the buyer and looked over the whole car for crash damage, plugged an OBD in, had a good look at the engine for a while, test drive, and done a history check, also had a chat with the buyer for a good while, could have been testing all the electrics as well at that point I’m not sure. In the end he couldn't find 1 thing wrong with the car. (Not saying thats a bad thing on his part) But fair play to him for not making stuff up that was wrong with the car

One thing i would think would be important too would be to definately have full access to the underside chassis, suspention, brake components etc checked out up on a ramp like they do in the NCT,without a lot could be overlooked.....
