3 yr old car, no service book

Folks looking at a 3 yr old golf gtd down north. 39000 miles on it. I'm able to get print outs of the service work at 19000 and 37000 miles that were carried out. I'm old school and like a book for future reference. The dealer is not willing to order a vw book and and get the retrospective services stamped. Is this normal practice to go with virtual services.

A lot of dealers operate this way in more recent times. If I had the printouts for all the work I'd be more happy with them than if I was supplied with a stamped book alone.

Yea I agree somewhat as the print outs tell more. I'm just anal about these things lol.... should 5 and 6mm tyres be replaced before retail?

you can always tell the dealer its a condition of you buying.....or offer less and use the difference to get new set yourself.

Depends, if they were going to stick 4 Landsails on as part of the deal or instead knock €300 off the price I'd prefer the €300 off the price and source my own tyres.

Plenty of life in those tyres tbh. Certainly do not warrant replacement.

I know Skoda were using virtual service books in 2015 so it’s stored on their system. VW were probably the same so there may not ever have been a service book. Get the reg checked with a dealer to confirm the history.

A dealer is never going to replace tyres with 5/6 mm left on them unless they are damaged or you pay him extra to do so.

Regarding service book, many manufacturers have switched to online service histories these days. If the service history is maintained in the main dealer network then they will have an online record of it on request.

Afaik that car wouldn't have been supplied new with a service book anyway.

The blank service books are usually organised locally and aren't available to order overnight like most other spare parts. Last time I had to get one, it was a minimum order quantity of 10 units and 4-6 week turnaround, so I can see why the dealer would be reluctant to offer one.

Anything VW manufactured from 2017 on is digital history only iirc, some models were before others but you can be confident in anything 2017 on. Most dealers just give an updated print out after every service.

If it's a VW dealer "Das Welt Auto" approved car, anything 4mm or above is acceptable in terms of tyres.

Not a vw garage buying from. My understanding is they have ordered it and I rang the Vw garage myself directly and they didn't mention anything about MOQ. I think they must have them in stock.

I just checked and seems the car has no mudflapd and these will be extra.....pure bloody stinchy ha

Is the dealer that serviced going to stamp it?

Well it wouldn't be a minimum order to the consumer, just that the dealer has to order them in batches of ten. I'd say some of the bigger dealers would keep them but smaller outfits probably not and wouldn't be too interested in changing that.
