Specifically Bjorn just did the Kona64 11hrs30minutes
Compared to 12hrs15 minutes in the lowly 28ioniq.
Kinda says it all about battery size doesn't it ?

Again modest batteries in more cars and decent infrastructure

I think the Ioniq should have a place in the motoring hall of fame. I would roll one myself if it was not for the sea of grey inside plus the wife falling in love with the i3.

That's shocking. I was expecting not much more than 10:30 hours. Haven't watched the vid yet, but I will.

Have been saying that for years. You don't need a big battery. You don't even need a car that can fast charge quickly. You need a decent charging infrastructure!

Fast watched it. In fairness it was a lot colder than when they other cars did the 1000km test (6C when he started). He said it would do 11:00 hours in summer

And he drove quite a bit at 125km/h, not sure if he did as much of that with some of the other cars. Those speeds are not good for the range of EVs and Kona obviously isn't very aerodynamic. I'd say a strategy to drive a bit slower would have given him a quicker 1000km total time.

    Ah.

1000km makes a LOT more sense.

Oh yes, we need much faster charging cars, 50 Kw just doesn't cut it today, and that's if your battery is close to being 20 Degrees C !

    I'd take a 100 Kw charging 40 Kwh over a 60 Kwh 50 Kw charging car.

However, the larger the battery the more work charging I can use lol.

And , sure , a worthy charging infrastructure would be nice.

Fart fingers? They make raspberry noises everytime they touch the keyboard? ;)

Bjorn's 1000km tests are interesting, but as he points out they are very flattering to fast charging lower-range cars because he does the tests on routes littered with very fast chargers.

For Ireland at this point I'd still go for the car with 300km+ of winter motorway range so that I'd almost never have to visit a public charger.

Personally I'd prefer if he did a 500km challenge (Cork-Dublin return, Dublin-Galway return etc). 1000km has no major relevance in this country. I dont care if someone has done it... it's not typical.

I'd like to see Mad_Lad run his almighty i3 Rex against a Model 3 LR. :D

He can even cheat and use fossil fuel when the battery is empty!

EV race. No fossil cars allowed :p

Anyway, isn't the top speed of the i3 something like 150km/h? And on petrol alone I doubt it goes much over 120km/h. Won't beat Model 3 with those top speeds :p

Okay 500km challenge done several times,
Well ok 478km challenge my house to T1 Dublin airport 6hr15mins,25 min stop in urlingford on the way up 25mins at manor stone services on the way back.

    110kph indicated.

It would be interesting though. The REx design deals nicely with the occasional long trip. Shame they stopped making it.
