Looking at a 2016 GTD. Most out there are 114g. Found one that is 109g. Is there any real difference between the 109g and 114g engine. I know the 109g is older but it saves me a few hundred on the VRT. Has anyone else asked the garage to remove the silica bag before buying it (buying from a non VW garage) Cheers

First I've heard of the silica bag and paranoid now. Im hoping the previous owner (VW parts manager) was aware of it and did it already.

Is there any performance/reliability impact of the lower co2?

I hope to go test drive tomorrow. Cuz if it is an eco version with stupid gear ratios I won't be touching it. I suspect its just the same engine but every year or so when tested the CO2s went up. Like the current mk7.5 gtd is 125g!

Meant to say - Just make sure the garage know how to take the bag out without bursting it.

They said they wouldnt do it as its not a current problem and will be covered under warranty. So I'll wait to remove it after warranty

Bring it your local indie and get them to remove it ,or just remove it yourself. Took me about 15 minutes - bit fiddly getting the lower hose off the expansion bottle and trying to capture the coolant so you can re use it but totally do-able and good for peace of mind.

Overall the car is in good nick and the price relatively delightful so just have to put up with it. Trying to explore warrantys as its a northern Irish Ford dealer putting a used Ford warranty on it so trying to see what weight it holds down here if any.
