massive speed fluctuation on home network

So if I check the broadband speed on laptop it is about 50mb +

However, if i check it on any of the phones connected to the same WifFi I get much different readings

1 - 21mb with mobile data on / 31 if I turn off mobile data
2 - 9 mb with mobile data on / 18 if I turn off mobile data.

This is so inconsistent and at times I have gone as low as 3mb reading on the phone (android).

This problem has only started to happen this week. Incidentally I just signed a new contract with the provider!

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    What provider?
What service .... fixed wireless; FTTC; FTTH; other?
How fast is it supposed to be?

You have a a router to do a wired test for speed? What do you get there?

    Vodafone
    Fixed home fibre
I can get 50mb on laptop via wifi and the same via wired connection

Supposed to be about that speed

But via phones it is much lower and has really only dropped like this in the past few days

Seems to me your broadband is delivered over copper line from cabinet or exchange to your home ...... in other words FTTC and not fibre to the home.

You need to test your provided speed with a wired connection and not wireless.
If you do no t know what speed that should be then there is nothing to compare to to know if the wireless itself has gone flakey or if the whole broadband supply has dropped.

Wireless can easily be interfered with by electrical noise so tests need to be done wired to establish a baseline for comparison with wireless.

They tell me that I am only able to get 25mb but yet I get 50+

You need to post the pics/links to pics of the speedtest results when wired and wireless from laptop.
Make sure the laptop is within a few feet of the router when doing the tests and there are no obstacles between it and the router .... such as walls etc.
