I am planning to get a new licence as my previous one expired but I cant find it. Do the NDLS have a register of qualified drivers on a database or similar. Can I just make an appointment with them and complete the documentation, get my photo taken etc.

If you bring your Public Services Card (PSC) to the NDLS it will simplify your application process. An applicant will have two options to validate their identity and residency during the application process.

    1. Presenting a PSC at the NDLS centre will simplify your application process as the PSC will satisfy the following requirements:

    Photographic ID,
    Evidence of PPSN,
Evidence of address (where your address is as provided to the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection DEASP) and
Evidence of residency entitlement (where your place of birth or nationality are within the European Union / European Economic Area/Switerland).

Fill out the form, and get the section for loss of licence stamped at a Garda Stn.

    You would hope so.
Years ago, I went to renew my provisional. Couldn't locate it.
Filled whatever form was required and got it sent in. They came back saying i never had a provisional and I needed to start from scratch and were fairly sharp about it.
I found the licence anyway and sent it off to them. The response was - oh ok. We found you now.
This was before NDLS but crazy really.

If you have a PSC card, you can renew your driving licence online and you do not need to send in the old licence. I did it, the new licence arrived in a few days so I ripped up the old licence and tossed it in the bin. It could have been lost like the OP's for all they knew.
