Which home charger do I buy? Advice please

    Evening All,

So just got a 171 Ioniq and 6 days in and I love it :)

Daily commute Arklow to Dublin - 120 KM - 60 each way, 70% motorway, and as long as I keep the motorway speed below 70, the range seems quite accurate, but I am a complete newbie !!!!

So, have the SEAI grant approved :) was initially advised to buy a Zappi, and I love the idea of the functionality and the future capabilities, but and for me and its a big but, there is a 12 week lead time :(

I am mostly getting back to full change with the granny cable overnight, (3 out of 4 commuting nights) but I cannot live for 12 weeks like this ….

So I like tech, and I would like to do some future proofing is possible but have no actual long term plans or strategy for this yet, I know no one with an electric car that I can ask :( so what do you all recommend ?

Help me if you can please, all advice for home charging and anything else appreciated!

    Thank you.

    Welcome to the forum :)

Ioniq is great EV (make sure you make yourself known on the Ioniq thread and get yourself included in the Ioniq list) and with your commute you will save yourself a fortune (and be much kinder to the environment)

Do you have any solar PV or would you consider installing some in the future? If so, the Zappi is really the go to charger. It can send electricity from your panels that you are not using for your house straight into the car (provided of course the car is plugged in). It's expensive, but you will get the €600 subsidy to offset your outlay. I wouldn't really worry about the 12 week delay. That's doable on your granny charger. And where did you get this lead time from? Did you contact all crowds that install Zappis in Ireland?

I just got zappi installed on Thursday from carcharger.ir who have plenty in stock

Was 1100 installed which seems to be a little cheaper than others....the grant is driving up the cost of course

Guy who came was great and all done quickly....

Zappi 2, Shefwedfan? Or the original model?

For the 2 untethered 1100 seems to be the best price going. For the original (tethered) it's around 1000

A lot of profit being made here anyway. By the installers. And by MyEnergi

No idea but would expect it’s the Zappi 1

Everyone else I got a quote from was over the 1100 and not a hope of getting done for weeks

More or less paying 500 quid for the jnstall...my first charger was free from electric autos and 250 for install, robbery these days

Ah, your first install was because you bought a second hand EV, so you got no government subsidy / free install?

In that case your first charger wasn't free from electric autos, you paid 500 more for the car than you needed to, but got the 500 back for the charger :p

250 for a basic install is reasonable. It's the guts of 100 in materials and an hour (and a bit) labour and of course there is the call out charge

I agree there is plain robbery out there these days which comes with any subsidy scheme :)

The eGolf 1 was first install, yeah I know he had pumped up price to include charger but it sounds better to say free.....the grant for second hand came the next year

This install is for the outlander

If this was preg-grant I would expect 600-620 for charger and then 250 for install all in

Thanks guys for the welcome and the advice :)

Looks like the information given to me was not as accurate as I hoped if carcharger has them, I will be on to them on Monday morning.

I had no plans to consider solar panels, and did not even think of such option until last week when the garage said it, so the idea of the Zappi was my first choice, but the lead time was the killer, if I can get that reduced, then I would go for it, fo me home charging is going to be my primary charging, the nearest public charger to work is about a k from trhe office and the nearest one to home is about 3k, I am approved for the grant, and to be honest an extra 2/300 on the charger is not a deal breaker either.

Overnight in my driway will be just fine :) its just the time in the driveway at the moment is not always going to be sufficeint with the granny cable,

The zappi will also remove the need for a priority switch if you have electric ahower

Since I got the zappi v2 and then the harvi add on, I am constantly checking switches in the house and comparing on the app to see how bad they are lol. Barking at everyone to turn off the lights. :) this will pass i hope.

    That's a sweet setup eddhorse!

What's the X in the diagram represent, is that immersion diverter if you have it installed, but you don't have it?

Your system configuration isn't quite right though. You shouldn't be importing electricity from the grid to power your battery. That has a detrimental effect on your savings and it unnecessarily increases degradation of your battery

I guess this isn’t available on zappi v1?

I hope that wasn't from the Myenergi website. "Here's proof that our system is not working right" :p
