Replacing engine

Trying to figure out is it worth replacing the engine on my car or cut my losses. Car before engine failure worth approx. 14k. I had planned to keep for another 2 years or so.
New engine will have 10,000km warranty - not a reconditioned engine but a brand new one.
I know this will affect resale of car just wondering how much? would this put you off buying?

What's it worth without a new engine? Bollix all is the answer, so it's worth putting the new engine in, but then get shot.

Does a new engine not give it a longer life?
I know there's more than the engine to go wrong though!

It won’t affect the resale whatsoever.

It'll be worth more with a running engine than as a rolling chassis.

What price is the new engine, I'd be thinking circa €5k plus fitted?

Hi folks, looking for a bit of advice here.

I privately bought a 2011 1.7 astra about 3 months ago. Seemed in tip top shape. For the past month it started overheating regularly. I brought it to the garage and they told me that the thermostat had been taken out of the car, probably to disguise the fact the head gasket was on the way out. Head gasket was well gone on the car and the garage said I lot of damage had been done to the engine, so much so that the engine needs replacing.

The fella in the garage said I'd be lucky to get it repaired for less than 2k (clutch is also nearly gone). I got an offer for a straight swap with an 08 focus and I'm wondering is it worth my while replacing the engine or just take the swap?

    Thanks for any advice!

    Take the swop and run.

I don't think that's a great deal especially if the Focus is a 1.6 diesel, they ain't much better when it comes to reliability. Even swapping from a 2011 Astra to a 2008 Focus is indirectly costing you money. Is the engine included in the 2k a reconditioned engine or just a second hand engine? Personally I'd consider spending 2k to get the Astra back on the road a better choice than swapping it for a Focus diesel that is 3 years older and guarantees you nothing better in terms of reliability.

If you had a running well 08 Focus, why would you swap it for a broken down 2011 Astra? I'd be inclined to fix the Astra, it might set you back a few quid but at least you'll know what you have at the end of it.

Maybe get a second opinion on the whole €2k replacement engine scenario, but I'd still look to getting it fixed.
