    In preparation for Storm Lorenzo, we have compiled some answers to our frequently asked questions to help you prepare for the storm ahead.

    Known supply disruptions will continue to be posted on Twitter and on our website and if a Red Weather Warning is implemented, we will be priortising emergency supply queries.

    What can impact the water supply during a storm?

    There are a number of different factors that can limit a customer’s supply leading to a drop-in pressure or a complete cut out of supply. While the exact cause can generally not be determined initially, rather an investigation is often required, the most common causes are:

    - A burst main;
    - Pump failure; and
    - A reservoir Interruption.
    Please contact us here or on 1850 278 278 if you are currently without water to the cold kitchen tap and there are no known outages in your area.

    How can I conserve water during the storm?

    In preparation of a water interruption, it is recommended in advance of the storm that you fill containers of fresh water to use during the outage. Please see for more on how to conserve water here

    Do

    - Keep taps turned off
    - Try to conserve the water in your storage tank as it may result in an airlock if it empties (e.g. avoid flushing your toilet)

    Don't

    - Drink from the hot water or bathroom taps
    - Use any dishwashers/washing machines or any other equipment dependent on constant water flow while the water is not running from the cold kitchen tap
    - Use any gas, oil or electrical appliances that you will use to heat your water, such as an immersion heater
    - Use central heating systems during the period when the water is off. However, if you are unsure please refer to your manufacturer’s guide or contact your heating service provider

    My mains water has returned; however, I have no water upstairs. What do I do?

    If your cold tap is working but your hot tap is not, then you may have an airlock in your internal plumbing. Following these tips to find out how you can check for and clear an airlock.

    1. Turn off both taps
    2. Connect both taps with a hose
    3. Turn on hot tap first and then cold tap.
    4. Turning on the cold tap will result in the cold water being forced through the hot water system and this will force the air which is causing the airlock back into the water tank in the attic.
    5. Let the cold tap run for 1 – 2 minutes, then turn off both taps & remove the hose
    6. Let the hot tap run for 1 – 2 minutes to confirm that the air lock is cleared

    My supply is discoloured following an outage; what should I do?

    We recommend that you run your cold kitchen tap for 10-15 minutes in order to clear the discolouration. If the issue still persists after this, then please PM us with the following information.

    - Name;
    - Contact number;
    - Address, including Eircode; and
    - If your neighbours are affected?

    Please be advised that due to a high volume of contacts our team will be prioritizing no water related queries and emergencies. Please see here for further information in relation to water discolouration.
