Saorview Connect box

Hi..I am thinking of getting the Saorview connect box..I gave virgin the boot.At the moment I am using a dish that was here when I moved in,with old sky boxes.I want to get RTE VIRGIN etc, which is why I was looking at the saorview connect box.I have been reading that the box is not great,,One of the problems is it doesnt update channels? The old sky boxes must auto update, because I never have to do anything only turn on..What other box would be better,to have the free sat and saorview...I know its kind of a "How long is a piece of string question",but I am hoping some people who use the connect box,or another box would share their opinion..I know there are posts with this very same question, but the only ones I manage to find are months or years old...If this is in the wrong place, and a mod can slot it into an already open thread, that would be great..Thanks

I also need to get a combi box since losing my English channels I need to get a satellite dish, so would like to know which box to get and as there is only 1 saorview connect box should I get this?

No, if you read this thread you would see this is a terrible box

what box would you recommend? I have looked at the other thread but it is quiet old and a lot of posts to go through.

Sorry, I thought this was the connect thread. The main issue with the connect box is that it only has now and next epg on satellite channels making it useless for setting future recordings. It's a free to air box and these boxes need constant rescans as the channels are rearranged on the satellite by changing their frequency. There is no plug and play combi solution [snipped]

Thank you for you reply The high horse brigade, had a look at your link and while I probably could handle the box, time or the lack of it is the issue and also I have very bad broadband, 2mbs. Will probably just pick up a walker combi box that's what the dish installer recommends and get him out to install the dish. Just looking for a few extra channels to wind down for the 30mins I have most evenings. From reading about the saorview connect, it's not worth the money.

Just note as I said earlier the walker combi will lose satellite channels over time requiring rescans and doesn't have 7 day EPG on satellite, now and next only.

You don't need broadband for my image, plenty use it standalone. It takes less than half an hour to flash once you have the files

Tiviar Alpha Plus is the box you need to do this?

Can't find the box on world-of-satellite.co.uk but it seems to be available on satworld.ie which gives the option of either factory image or programmed with engima 2
