Lads, Looking at one of these, any opinions good or bad on the engine or car in general?
About 30,000km per year mix of motorway and national roads.
    Thanks

Good car. Very practical. Very reliable.
Loading kids into the back isn’t great as rear doors are small, interior is a bit plasticky, ride isn’t as squishy as a Golf.
I’m not sure I’d have one if comfort is a priority. I had the older generation civic (of which this is essentially a heavy facelift) and it was just ok for comfort.

Sound Colm, it's for the parents so comfort would be important. I'll keep looking

Get them to drive it as comfort is subjective. I found the seats on the small side.
I’ve driven the model you’re talking about too and it was the same story.

Try and find one with a reversing camera/parking sensors as the visibility out the rear split window is poor.

I found the ex spec from that era with the leather seats to be quite comfortable. The infotainment and styling us very subjective but I didn't mind it too much. Try it out, I was quite close to buying one a few years back but in the end I didn't need the hassle of a Diesel.

Best 1.6 diesel out there.. drove and estate version for few years..70mpg achievable very easy..

The seats are on the small side but I'd say as other suggest test drive.. I found with the engine you had a better power output than the similar vw based 1.6 diesels.. more torgue and lighter engine.. didn't suffer the same sort of issues like egr problems of earlier 1.6 vw diesels

Thanks for all the help, went with a 2.0l jetta in the end. Nice car comfortable for both of them and a few extra features from the last car a golf.

Best car I have ever bought! I bought mine 3 years ago this December coming. I have a 151 1.6idtec Sport model. Lots of bells and whistles in it too.

Not an ounce of trouble and I service it regularly. I cover around the same mileage you are referring to annually too. The infotainment system can be the only part that is a pain at times but it would not put me off going for another Civic again.

Brilliant mpg with real life figures regularly coming in at around 63-65mpg, so no complaints!! Highly recommend it!!
