I need to replace a few crap water troughs/drinkers in a slatted shed. I want something fast fill and has a drain plug.

Ideally, I would like something I can attach to the walls and that has some kind of protection built into it so that I don't have to go and get a fella to make brackets etc separately.

Something like the link below from a UK site

    https://www.gea.com/en/products/cow-drinker-watering.jsp

Anyone have a particular unit they have installed recently or seen recently that they would recommend ?

they fill fast and empty quick, you can get protective guard to fit around them as well, mine are on pillars where creep gates are and i find cows tend to splash water about when drinking a bit which makes a mess around straw at creep gates but otherwise they are good

    Thanks Annubis

Are they not very small considering how much an animal could drink in one go.

What do you think of this off the same site :

well they fill so quick they are never really empty, really only for pillars i guess, if going for wall mounted the other one would be better

Got 4 of these myself last year to replace the drinkers in the shed and regret it. Find them too small and the cows and bull's have a tendency to lick the water splashing it everywhere. Personally think they should be deeper but because of the way the barriers are on the shed they were the only ones that would fit with the protective case on them. They're well built and work well but they should be at least 3-4 inches deeper imo. Not cheap either.

I put concrete drinkers at the outside of the gable walls in my shed with a hold through the mass concrete wall. Works a dream.

Would you consider putting in a few dumpy troughs?

    JFC Dumpy Trough

Our shed was finished last year and put three of these in. Find them very handy for the inevitable clear out of the trough. Only thing we had to do was weld on a bar to protect the fitting on the side.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to try two of long narrow troughs from the O Donovan Engineering site above. They seem to fit (I hope) what I am looking for and by being long and narrow, they should be a good fit to stretch between two pens.

I saw the JFC Dumpy alright and it looks like a nice bit of kit. But, even having a plug or a stopper that I can pull out to drain them will be a big step forward from the fcuking things I have now.

    Thanks again
