No signal on certain channels

    Hi all,

I'm just wondering if any satellite guru could help me here.

I moved over to Sky Q about a year ago now. About 3 months ago I noticed Freesports channel was very pixelated and majority of the time stated "No Satellite signal" I found this strange as every other channel worked fine and when I tuned in Freesports manually it was fine. I spoke with sky and an engineer called out and he said we need to switch boxes. Herself didnt want to lose all recordings so I put up with the loss of one channel.

Fast forward 3 months and I subscribe to Premier Sports, low and behold once they move from Eir to Sky Sports/BT package and Freesports now works perfectly.

Fast forward another 2 months and none of the MTV channels work and Im getting the same issue. This only happens with MTV and no other channels or music channels.

Any idea what is happening here? Is it something that SKy need to do? Is it as simple as changing boxes? Why would certain channels say I have a signal but then all MTV ones have an issue. Any help is greatly appreciated as I dont think Ill get much traction from Sky themselves.

I have the same issue, Freeports and Virgin media sport (same issue with Eir sport 2 back in the day) haven't been working for a long time now... It never bothered me because strangely enough Eir Sport 1 has always worked and I have the green sports app so can cast to the telly if I ever needed to

An answer from a satellite guru would be handy

All the MTV channels moved frequency in the last few days. Your box may not have picked up the change. Maybe reboot it and check them?

Try a reboot first. If this doesn't work get straight on to Sky. They may be able to re-pair your viewing card. This sometimes works. If not, then they will book a free engineer for you.

So rang sky. They did a card signal check. Did the whole reboot, took card out etc. This worked. For about 30 minutes and signal gone again from just these channels and VH1 (Part of MTV I believe)

They are sending and engineer out anyway but I don't hold up much hope as it's happened before and they couldn't fix it.

All those channels are on the same transponder. It could be an issue with the skew of the LNB on the dish (that's the angle it is in relation to the dish). Make sure to tell the engineer which channels are impacted.

Will do thanks JD. Strange thing is MTV HD is working fine. So it's just the SD channels have the issue. I will mention it though cheers.

So basically I've had two Sky engineers out, box changed, dish checked and sky have no idea why it's happening. Last case scenario is changing of sky viewing card but that means my own card is deactivated until new one arrives and I'm not sure it's worth being without TV for a few days with a guess of a fix. Madness really that they have no clue what's going on

The engineers are missing something. Its definitely not the card if you get no satellite signal messages.

It's most likely the dish/LNB. Those SD MTV channels are on Astra 2G satellite. MTV HD is on Astra 2E, which will be stronger.

Do you know if you have a 45cm Sky dish, or a 65cm? Most people will have 65cm but I see the smaller ones more often now on new installs. If it's a smaller one, and you are not on the east coast that may be your issue. The larger 65cm dishes are more forgiving.

I wonder could it be local interference from some other device in or near the house? I've heard of things like baby monitors jamming certain channels. If it's only one TP that could be a clue.

One engineer did say it could be interference with a mast. I'm not sure which dish it is, anyway of checking from the ground? It's on the back wall. Based in Cork City.

Good point on baby monitors, lots of tech equipment and devices around. This morning the channel appeared as pixelated so I'd imagine interference could be something I'll look into.

They are NOT engineers, that's why. Sky do not use engineers, they are installers.

Did they check dish alignment and skew?
