There's a slight 'drain' smell in our room with washing machine and dryer. Any DIY tips before having to call a plumber? Machines working fine and grey water drain outside looks fine.

Look under the kitchen units near thev machine for any signs of water on the floor. If you see water stop using the machine until its looked at.
If no water and the odour is more prevalent In the machine rather than around it, run the machine through a full cycle with a cleaning solution, or ordinary detergent on the hottest setting with no clothes.
Then see if the odour is still present after that.

If you have hard water, like I do, pour a litre or so of heated vinegar into the drum and rotate it . Even though I use limescale tablets in the wash, i still have to do this once or twice a year to get rid of smell that comes from gungy limescale buildup.

Check is there a trap on the drain, for some reason most plumbers in ireland dont put traps on these drains.

After that put a cleaner or vinegar in the machine and put it on an empty run as suggested above.

Had a similar issue over the weekend. Turned out the waste water pipe was blocked resulting in back flow. Fun weekend trying to clear the blockage, eventually got it done by buying a tool in woodies that is basically a length of flexible wire that you shove done the piping.
