Vegetable oil? cheaper than halfords again if that is the concern.

Halfords sell petronas syntium oil also.
Very good oil and cheaper than the other main brands.
Got 10 liters for 50 odd quid the other day.
    Might still be on sale.

So long as it meets the spec for your engine I'd use it. I've used Halfords oil for years and have had no complaints. Always a good buy when on offer.

If it meets the specs required for that engine then there’s no harm.

OP - Micksgarage often have Total oils on special.

Look, oil brands don't matter once it's 5w30 or whatever the car calls for its fine.
Oil is oil, follow the service schedule and its fine.

It really isn’t. 5w30 is just the viscosity of the oil. There are a whole lot of different specs that specific cars need. For example, the OPs car has a DPF, and Toyota specify a C2 spec oil as a minimum.

Get the oil and filter from your local Toyota dealer. The cost saving is minimal in the scheme of things.

Woodies have 5L Castrol GTX for €27/28 -

    SAE15W-40

    ACEA A3/B3

    API SL/CF

    VW 501 01/ 505 00

I've used Halfords brand oil for years, no issues.... However I recently got a much newer car and I decided to use Mobil oil, for the sake of an extra €7 odd euro I went for the branded stuff this time round.
