    Hi Irish Water

We built a new house, in the side garden of an existing house, in a south Dublin 1970’s estate.  The new house is now at practical completion stage.

To the rear of the new house, within the new house site, there is an existing private foul sewer line (and manhole) which serves the adjoining/existing houses.

The foul water drainage for the new house is connected directly into the existing private foul sewer line, within the new house site, via the existing manhole (as was indicated per our planning drawings).

Just outside the boundary of the new house site, there is a green area, where the existing private foul sewer line connects into the public foul water drainage system.

Now that house is at practical completion stage, the solicitor is asking for various confirmations (for mortgage) including services connections.

    Question is….

Should an (indirect) connection agreement for the foul water drainage have been sought from Irish Water?

P.S./BTW....separate fresh water supply has been provided (or is in the process of being provided) by Irish Water to the new house.

    Hi DOCARCH,

Thank you for getting in touch.

We would advise that you contact the Planning Department within your local authority to confirm the previous plans and agreements for the existing property's Wastewater.

    Thanks,
    Leona

    Hi Leona

I did contact planning department in council (prior to post above).  They said....you need to speak with Irish Water!

Just trying to find the right person to talk to/contact as I am not looking for a new waste water connection (as the connection is already there).

    Hi DOCARCH,

Thanks for clarifying this for us.

Based on the information you have provided above, the planning department are responsible for providing a map of the infrastructure. You will only need to contact Irish Water if you wish to get a brand new connection to public wastewater mains and will not need an indirect connection agreement for this foul sewer from Irish Water.

If you would like a map of the infrastructure, you will need to contact the planning department.

    Thanks,
    Mairead

    Hi Mairead

    Thanks for that.

Is there a way to get that confirmed, specific to the site/address?

You can get the map for the infrastructure specific to the address from your local Water Department and if you require anything else, please feel to PM us or send your query to operations@water.ie

    Thanks,
    Mairead
