    Hi folks,

I'm off to Russia next week to see St Petersburgh and Moscow.
I want to pick up a nice handy compact camera to take shots while im there. I dont wanna bring my dslr.
I have been told that i could pick one up cheaper while there.
Does anyone know if thats true?

Moscow prices for most things are horrendous. I'm not sure electronics would be any better.

The camera in your phone is better than all but the most expensive compact cameras. I wouldn't bother, even if they were cheaper than here.

If you have one of the top of the range phones which cost €600-€900, their cameras are ok and are comparable with cheap compact cameras. But if you are willing to spend €400-€600, you can get a compact camera that is much better that any phone's.

Just FYI, expensive compact cameras are in a €2000-€4000 range.

But in principle I agree that a good phone generally takes acceptable tourist pictures and, very importantly, you do not need to carry another piece of equipment. Even a small camera needs a place in a bag, or would be carried around in your hand.

If you have a particular camera model in mind, I could check the price online in some shop in Moscow?

Update: for Canon PowerShot G9 X Mark II, prices in Moscow's online shops are €340-€400. The same in Curries.ie €479.00. So it seems Moscow is a bit cheaper.

Just get one in the airport. You could spend a day throttling around Russia trying to get one.

I was in both of those cities last summer and I didn't even see such a shop. Use your phone as said already.
