Gate bolt slipping from socket

Have a sturdy metal gate bolt that has started to slip from its socket due to wear. The socket was drilled into a stone wall and has been eroded by wear and tear. Just wondering if anyone knew of a solution. I'm thinking two options: extend the bolt (unlikely as it looks like thick heavy metal) or insert a rawlplug type contraption to extend/reinforce the sides of the socket. Any ideas welcome.
