Is a cattle grid ok when its rusty? I have one that has been sitting in long grass for probably 10 years... Is it likely to still be ok?

It depends on how rusty it is. If it is made from heavy stuff like railway girders, then it is probably ok. If it's made from thin wall stuff, then it is no good.

Thanks Patsy, the grid is made from large round pipe that was a silver colour and now looks a bit rusty

We really don't have enough information to help you. Any cattle grid that is not driven over regularly is going to have some surface rust. Dose a little rust mean its just gone orange in colour or you can see the metal is getting pitted or possibly even small holes in it?

Is all of the silver colour gone or just where the wheels of passing cars had worn it off?

    Maybe some pictures might help
