Looking for advice into retrofitting a heat pump into bog standard 3 bed semi....replacing gas, normal rads...C1 rating but attic will be done. Does heat pump keep house warm...does it actually work out cheaper to run than gas ??

My understanding is that they are really only effective and cost efficient in homes that are very well insulated to a high standard with double or triple glazing.

To install a heat pump system, you must ensure your home is well insulated and that you have good double or triple glazed windows. In this way your heat pump system will perform well and your electricity bills will be low

Technical assessment says heat pump will suit as heat loss is under 2...have read all the material about upgrading house etc... looking for people's real life experiences so can make informed decision

I read that it would cost 40k to bring your home up to the standard required to make the heat pump work. Well this figure was put forward for 1980 or earlier house.

Might be an academic argument since these will be mandatory in the next few years anyway for new houses, old ones will surely follow.

Nope, many properties are not suitable for heat pumps irrespective of the level of insulation so there will always be a requirement for something other than a heat pump unless of course technology changes to take into account the problems faced at the moment.

True, but we're gonna need a technological solution fast as we can't have oil/gas banned for certain properties but allowed for others.
