No display on replacement laptop screen

I knocked my Lenovo IdeaPad 310 off the kitchen table and the screen broke so I purchased a replacement screen and recently installed it.

On the first boot up with the new screen installed the Lenovo logo came up but there were little pixels dancing across the screen, which I thought was odd. Then before it went into the Windows 10 boot screen it went blank and I has been blank ever since.

I checked the connection and it's firmly in place and I used a VGA cable into an external monitor and that works, so I'm confused why the new screen doesn't display.

Could the new screen it be a dud?

    Any ideas?

Without putting the bezel back on can you tell if the backlight is working?

Yes, the back light seems to be working. When I power the laptop on I can see a dim light behind the screen but nothing displays.

So the screen is getting power. Are you certain the cable is connected fully? Last screen I replaced you really had to make sure the connection was clicked in.

try to find a youtube video - somebody has probably done the job for the same laptop.

The screen is definitely getting power, I'll try to disconnect the screen and reconnect it again but it looks like a solid enough connection.

Must videos and forums suggest to remove the battery, then wait a few minutes for the static discharge. I've done that without success, it was a pain in the hole too, as I had to take the laptop apart and remove the keyboard to take the battery out.
