Advice on buying second hand car-baby on the way

Hi , due to change in life circumstances(baby on the way) I will soon have to get rid of my diesel van and get something more suitable. Looking for advice on what will suit
    0. Budget is anything between 6000 to 12000, preferably lower but prepared to bump up if it’s going to mean better reliability/longer life
    1. Hatchbacks are out , need some boot space.
2.usage is 40Km total work commute and then mostly local runs rounds, occasional long trip down the country
    3. Currently pay 400 odd in tax per year and insurance around 600, would rather that didn’t go through the roof
    4. Looks not top priority but would like something comfortable on the inside, have always driven loud dirty beater diesels, want something a bit plusher now.
    5. Something with a good rep for reliability, I’ve had to sink a lot of money into DOEs over the years
