Anyone have a definitive answer to what the tallest tree in Ireland is?
    Getting some conflicting information online.

    I may have a contender.

    Thanks.

that page you've linked to claims it's a douglas fir in avondale, not any of the sequoias you've mentioned.

I was only providing the link as general information for the OP as it wasn't clear if he wanted the actual highest tree in Ireland or the highest family of trees. I neither know nor care which is the actual highest tree.

on that topic, the coastal redwood is generally a taller tree than the giant redwood (the giant redwood tends to be bigger in volume though).

Do you want the tallest individual tree or tallest species? If species, native or all?

Sorry should have said individual tree.
People seem to be getting different answers alright.

The one I have in mind is in Rathdrum, but not in Avondale estate. I’ve emailed treecouncil.ie with my query. I’ll report back if I hear anything.

From the Tree Register site, UK based but includes Irish records.

It seems we have a tie at the moment, you may have seen one of these:

Douglas-Fir Pseudotsuga menziesii 61.30m, measured 2018, Coillte at Avondale, near Rathdrum. A second tree of this species also over 60m close by

Sitka Spruce Picea sitchensis 61.30m, measured 2018, National Park, Glendalough, nr Laragh 2 more Sitkas at Rathdrumr 60.2m and 60.4m

These two species and Abies grandis, Grand Fir are the only species that have topped 60m in Britain and Ireland

Interesting. The one I’m looking at could be one of the ones you’ve referenced.
Does the site give exact locations or just a outline.
    Thanks.

    10 figure grid refs are:

    Douglas fir 61.3m T2005885972
    Sitka 61.3m T1107695683
    Sitka 60.4m T1994885936
    Sitka 60.2m T20009859894

Did you laser your tree, or estimate it?
