Back in the mid 00s the TV licence would increase a couple of euro evey year or so, why did it stop increasing after 2008?

Yeah pretty much Gov weren't going to increase it during the recession. If you like every two years, it would be about 170 at this point.

It doesn't excuse RTE for their cuts over the past 8 or so years.

Also even when I say that I would mention that RTÉ also took a further cut as the then government move funding of TG4 from the Exchequer to part Exchequer part Licence fee.

Because peoples wages were down and to raise the licence fee during the recession would have led to war.

As far as I can recall the TV Licence suddenly went up from 70 or 80 straight to around 120-130 one year, during "tiger period". Perhaps someone can get the exact figures.

That's one of the reasons there is so much apathy around this issue, and let's be honest there standards and content have dropped big time.

Around the same period there were massive pay rises for politicians as well.

They all got greedy and it's biting RTE in particular now..

    I can't actually believe I'm paying €160 a year for watching RTE!

That 2003 increase was incredible €43, that was nearly 50% increase.

How did we as a people not crib and cry at the time!
