Been thinking about going on holidays abroad recently, I am a social welfare reciepient on disability allowance and never travelled while on social welfare. What information will they be looking for and what documents do they want? I found out this morning they look for bank/credit union statements and copy of flight tickets... is this true?

You are allowed 2 weeks outside of the country a year and it has no impact on your payments.
Contact the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection when you have everything booked and let them know the dates you will be gone. They won't ask for anything if it's the standard two week or less.
In reality most people just leave and come back without contacting them, they have no way of tracking you, especially short term.
If you are gone for months they may find out.
Where did you get this info about "bank/credit union statements and copy of flight tickets" ?
I've never heard of that happening.

That’s an entirely different set of circumstances.

A two week holiday once a year is still permitted without question on job seekers. I guess it's complicated if you go over two weeks and they might decide not to pay you for the total holiday period if they think you have the means to support yourself.

It’s not without question. You have to apply for holidays and be approved.

    How's the money paid ?

If it's in your bank account I'd say nothing. It will be grand. If it's in the post office let them know there's a link on the website and they will suspend payment the week your away and have a double payment ready whe. You return

If you're on disability allowance and it's paid into your bank account, you don't have to inform them.

If you're going for more than 2-3 weeks and worried about it you could phone the Disability Allowance Section in Longford and ask for advice, but to be honest they won't care, and they'd never know.

You don't have to tell them because they will never find out but technically you do have to tell them and if you do they will ask for more info if it's over two weeks.

Has anyone had actual recent experience of this and what documents if any do they ask for.? Thank you all for your responses.

You’re not going to have anyone here with experience of telling SW that they are going on holidays while on DA because people on DA just go away for a week or a fortnight and then return. Most people on DA get their payment into the bank.
Going on holidays while on DA is NOT the same as holidays on Jobseekers.
You should ring DA on 1890927770 yo get confirmation of this.

What would happen if you went without telling them and they did find out after, even if it was only for 2 weeks, would you be in trouble?

I went to my folks place in Spain last year and came back to a later telling me to sign on while I was away.

I went in, told them I was away and they said I should have told them. I signed then and that was it.

Sounds about right. They would rather you did inform them but are not overly concerned if you are out of the country for a short period.

JSA is different to DA. Totally different rules and regulations

    You don't need any documents.

You casually mention to them you are going away for two weeks. Or however long you're going for. You're entitled to two of those weeks paid so you can get it when you return they'll hold it for you, or else just put it into your bank if they already do that?

Its not a huge deal like..
Just go down and tell them when you're going and they'll note it on the system to ensure you get paid and it doesn't cross over with any signing days

    Sorry, above was for jobseekers.
