How to install curtains/blinds ?

    Hi,

I'm looking for curtains or blinds for a new-build I've bought. I see plenty of places that will sell curtains/blinds but I'm not seeing anyone who will actually install them. How does this normally work, do you just buy them and then take out the drill and make some holes. Or are there places that come out and install them as well ?

I have done this myself in the past but in that case I knew that the material of the window lintel was wood so it was fine to just drill holes in it. What about a new-build though, for all I know the lintel could be metal or it could be plaster-board that wouldn't support the weight of the blind/curtain rail, if there is someone who will fit it for me how do they know what the wall is made of ?

    Thanks,

    Zozo

You have a few options. Some shops that make curtains and blinds will also supply and fit poles and hang curtains and blinds for you. This will probably be a very expensive option, but things will (or should be) done right.
There are online companies who measure for blinds, I’m sure some of them probably fit too.
Then you can buy ready made curtains, get your own poles and get a good handyman in for a day to put up poles etc. I’d expect a decent handyman to know how to hang poles properly.

I used to install them as nixers during the recession when times were tough.
