    Hi everyone,

Just wondering about the ROS digital certificate - mine was up and I just renewed it.

But it was basically just changing the password - is this right?

You know when something just seems too easy .....

    thanks in advance.

    Hey

Just remember where you stored it as I did it last month and when I went to submit the file, you need to have the correct location on your pc.

not at all! when you complete your payroll, and you submit it to Revenue, with Sage, your cert and password are stored automatically. If its new cert, you will have to know where your cert is located on your PC. its a step by step with Sage. What software are you using?

Mine was on a laptop that died.
I removed the hard drive, plugged into a USB case, got the file off it and put it on to new laptop.

    Worked fine.

ROS basically asks you for location of cert (new laptop desktop for me) and renewed it.

I don't look after the payroll just the VAT side of things. I waited to renew after this current VAT period.

So should it ask for something at my next VAT period?

The password is used to access the actual certificate, which is stored in the Certificate (container) .P12 file. When you 'change the password' a new Certificate is created and it is stored in your browser. A backup copy of this file should be saved when prompted by ROS. If only access ROS via the website and don't change browsers/computers etc the actual certificate file will not be required again.
