    Hi,

Have any Arteon owners had trouble with the car? My one year old car is now in the garage 3 weeks with a grinding gear and it seems like VW haven't a clue what they are dealing with. I am at my wits end with them :(

Was it missing a lot of gears or just one, was it a frequent issue or fairly sporadic?

At the back of it all, there's very little it could be. If its grinding gears it's likely a mechatronics failure. If the mechatronics is giving trouble it'll generally leave fault codes behind it. Box needs to be checked for filings too, if there's heavy filings, replacing the box is usually advised.

If its a 1 year old they are taking the piss. They have had the chance to repair it , in a reasonable time, and failed its time to start looking for a replacement or refund off them.

I think they are only available DSG?

They are available in manual too these days.

It's a manual petrol. So frustrating to deal with. Seems impossible for VW to source the right tools as everytime I call they seem to be waiting to receive them.

Ia it missing one particular gears or all gears? I'd really be pushing for a gearbox replacement in that case, it's not unreasonable.

If the workshop doesn't have the tools on the shelf, they mustn't have done one before and all credit to the workshop but you dont want to your car to be the experimental one. A gearbox replacement should be faster and more straightforward.

This is assuming it isn't a clutch or linkage issue?

Then start on the next of your 3 Rs. They've tried Repairing it and haven't, so now it's Replace or Refund.

    Talk to VW Ireland perhaps?

New gearbox wouldn't need specialist tools , tell em replace it. Did they give you a good courtesy car?

I tried that. Not overly helpful either.

Car was picked up on Thursday and is now gone back to the garage as 3rd & 5th gears are now grinding. :(

Fairly simple.... Box out, inspect clutch and linkage... They order new box... new box delivered in a box to dealer.... dealer fits new box.... old box gets put back in a box by dealer and sent to VW..... Costumer collects car... Job done, everybody is happy.

    Get solicitor and seek advice.
Possibly solicitor would write clearly outlining situation to date, giving them one further opportunity to fix (if law requires) then look at rejecting it after that.
