Check if the cat is not clogged up.

Thanks, they said cat. was fine, they also said Lambda sensor seemed ok although they don,t seem so sure as its to go in again on tues for another lambda sensor to be tried (secondhand )i think from similar car,it seems a shame but im gonna have to scrap a 2008 mazda with 70,000ml because it cant pass emmisions test and is losing power ,98 percent of the time it drives fantastic but it,s too risky on the motorway with the temporary power loss even if it is for 2 secs, cheers

I'd be doing a compression test.

They are famous for being a particularly soft engine, prone to high oil consumption as a result of excessive/ premature wear on the piston rings iirc. If you've already had trouble with NCT emissions, this would be another early warning sign of possible worn rings.

Have seen examples before with stuttering/ shuddering intermittently with no faults stored, compression tested and down on compression.

Oil rings are prone to cracking and seizing - hence increased oil consumption. But compression rings wore out because of low oil level and if the oil was regularly topped up, they should be fine.

Nevertheless compression test is easy and cheap enough...

Had a similar issue with an 07 mazda 6 petrol 1.8.
It was struggling or losing power in the low gears, really noticeable when going up a hill.
There was also a small constant drop in revs at idle.
Turned out to be the front "upstream" lambda sensor.
