Genuinely can't decide. We love Majorca, we can fly from Shannon with a short flight/transfer. Turkey flight is from Dublin and return flight is 6am!!!!
Have never been to Turkey, I'm looking at the holiday village there, hotel looks fab. But with a 14 & 15yr old is it wasted on them? Hotel great for younger kids.
Hotel in Majorca wouldn't be as good but still lovely (ground floor apt facing pool) Ca Saboners in Palmanova.

Majorca all day for me, but if you're not too impressed with the accomodation, there's literally hundreds of options on the island, surely you're not locked into one?

Thank you, the hotel in Majorca is lovely too but just wouldn't be as nice. To get the same standard of hotel in Majorca would be far too expensive. Turkey offer better value for your money imo. Think we are leaning more towards Majorca but my only niggle lol is I like to go somewhere new once a year. We are already going back to France nxt year so for my main holiday I would have preferred somewhere different. Majorca is fab and we always end up going back there again lol

Political environment isnt great, failed coup in 2016
Turkey has/is using its miliary against kurdish rebels in Syria....The land border with Syria has been infiltrated by different groups, Dept of foreign affairs currently has a warning to avoid all travel within 10km of the border. Even if your not close to the boarder the risk of terrorism in cities like istanbul is high.
You also need an e-visa on arrival which costs.
I definitely wouldn't travel to the country even if the travel agents are pushing it especially with kids

$69 excluding Government processing fees that vary between $25 to $60 depending on your citizenship.

Hotel is 700 miles from border and even further from Istanbul. I've been in Paris all through their bad years of attacks and London too. Don't have any concerns where we are looking at going to.
We have travelled to plenty of country's where we have needed visas and tbh the cost is no more than the tourist tax we pay in Spain & France.
The 6am flight home & travelling through Dublin Airport is more off putting tbh.

Istanbul is over 1000km by rd to the border and bombs have gone off there... niteclub, also at a stadium n more.
Its a judgment call at the end of the day..personally i wouldn't go there france and spain dont have land borders with Syria.

We aren't going to Istanbul tho. Nearly 800km from there. As I said we would be over 700miles from the border. As you say its a judgment call but personally don't over react regards these things. Anyway I think we have knocked off the list as tbh don't fancy the 3am wake up call to fly back to Dublin.

You can also be killed on the road in Ireland.
Or killed by your neighbour who thinks you're an intruder.
The terrorist risk in Ireland is also becoming higher I would suggest.
The visa costs ten Euro & you can do it online before you travel.

Thing is OP, if you're the type of person who worries about everything & nothing, then you should stay in your house. Of course..... People die in the home too.......!!
Why not try Turkey? Do it once, why not!
Turkey is a great country I love it.

OP, I've been to Turkey 9-10 times. Never had an ounce of trouble. Its a wonderful place. Fantastic food, drink, culture. People are super friendly.

I wouldnt worry about Turkey especially far away from the eastern border. The chances of a terrorist attack happening in Istanbul are around about the same as the chances of one happening in Paris and lot of people still go there. If you've been to Majorca before I would give Turkey a try, its a great desintation with superb food and offers good value for money.

    Interested in Turkey myself.

Anyone have recommendations for the best resort and apartments? We usually go self-catering and would like a 2/3 bedroom apartment. Looking for somewhere with Water Parks close by.

    Thanks
