Frogs

We've never had frogs in our garden in the 10 years we've lived in Baldoyle. Last year I dug a garden pond and this Spring I rescued some frog spawn from a drying up puddle and popped it into the pond. So we now have loads of very small frogs hopping around the place. The thing is, in the last few weeks, several large adult frogs have turned up (3 in the garden and 1 dead one on a pavement at the end of the street). As far as I am aware, the nearest ponds are on Sutton golf course, about 600 metres away as the crow flies. Can these adult frogs have somehow detected the presence of a new pond and moved into the vicinity?

There may well be small ponds among your neighbours gardens, as many do in the suburbs. [me, too]

That's not a huge distance for frogs to have travelled. They spend most of the year out of water and seek out damp sheltered areas.

Possibly, just strange they show up now after years with no sightings.
