How many games of the RWC 2019 are free to air for the Irish viewer?

If you don't have access to ITV, how many games of the Rugby World Cup are actually free to air for the Irish viewer apart from the Ireland games on RTE?

South Africa v New Zealand was on this morning but apparently was only on Eir Sports. Alot of rugby fans would have wanted to see this no doubt as its 2 of the favourites pitted against each other early on in the tournament.

    13.
The opening game, Japan v Russia.
    Ireland’s four pool stage games
    All four quarter finals
    Both semi finals
The Bronze Final(3rd place play off)
    The Final.

Note that only Ireland’s games are protected for free to air.

Could be worse. Viewers in both New Zealand and South Africa only have live pay TV coverage. In fact viewers in NZ were only supposed to have (paid) streaming coverage, except the stream fell over and FTA coverage of the second half on TVNZ (who have delayed/highlights rights) was very hastily arranged.

Jesus, thats appalling. Considering that the sport is the country's top attraction there you wonder how the fans allowed this competition to go behind a paywall. Did they kick up a stink I wonder? It would like treating soccer's equivalent the same or sticking the bulk of the GAA's All Ireland competitions on Sky.

Well, it’s been behind a paywall for years there, and the bigger complaint seemingly was not the fact that it was behind a paywall at all but that it was behind the wrong paywall - not Sky NZ who have long mopped up nearly all rugby rights in NZ but Spark, who despite their name are actually the rebranded Telecom New Zealand, so hardly an upstart Eleven Sports type operation but still a newbie in rugby terms.

Cheers. Didn't know how it worked over there tbh.

Yes but as has been pointed out if you receive UK channels via Sky it is not on the epg and has to be added manually which makes it very difficult to record from. Best way to receive ITV in ROI is via Freesat or if you can get Freeview from Wales or N. Ireland. Otherwise it's a bit of a pain.

Here in N. Ireland if we want alternative to ITV we can watch RTE's limited coverage via Saorview but Eir Sports coverage via Sky is geo blocked.

It's actually 14 games, according to an article on the42 RTÉ are contracted to show 1 game per weekend and since Ireland play Russia on a Thursday they still have to take another game at the weekend, so they've gone for France Tonga even though England play Argentina the same weekend

Unfortunately it doesn't make it very difficult to record from the Sky box, it makes it impossible

Incorrect. You can tune into ITV channel on your Sky box and link your Sky Box to an external recorder and record directly off that recorder. Possible but a pain to set up.

Thanks just noticed it is different satellite than my Sky system ( Astra 28.2) so I can't get it unfortunately.
