Source disk breaks for rear of Honda CRV 2005

    Failed NCT on this

Any idea of how much second hand they will cost?

On a scale of 1 - 10 where 10 is expert how difficult is it to DIY it?

    Thanks

Why would you buy second hand brake discs when rear discs are only are only 60 or 70 quid

Depending on how confident you are ,they are fairly easy to do

If you're willing to buy second hand discs, and give it a go yourself, then I'd maybe also consider not driving the car afterwards.

Yeah, I know this is the DIY forum, but if you have to ask how hard it is and can you source second hand braking consumables, then this probably isn't the best DIY item to cut your teeth with.

You'll need to replace the brake pads too as the existing ones are in terrible condition too. I'd expect to find the caliper difficult to remove and wind back looking at how rusted everything is.

To answer your question, you'd probably source new discs and pads for €100~, general DIY 3 or 4 but given the corrosion etc here, if it's your first time out probably more like a 6 or 7.

Sore what’s the worst that’s I’ll happen LOL

I will get someone to do it

    Thanks for all the advise

What a fair fee for the Labour if it’s not being done in a garrage / no rush on a weekend ?

For an experienced DIY person they are not hard to do.
But since many places would do the job cheap and safely I'd advise you to go with a professional this time.

Where are you? We can suggest some local mechanics.

Depending on the price of discs and pads labour should be around 50-100.

I recently changed pads and cost was 80 in total including parts, if discs were changed at the same time the labour wouldn't be much more.

I've done this replacement meself in the past and while not super difficult, it becomes when you are missing tools ;)

Rear ones often are tricky because you need a rewind tool to push the pistons back (not sure if Honda has them).

You can get discs skimmed if there's plenty of wear left on them but it's generally about €25 a corner so often it's not a whole lot more to buy new. Have a look at Mister-Auto.ie for prices regarding your make an model.

Your brakes look like the caliper is also sticking since the disks aren't wearing evenly so likely needs a good clean/service along with some silicone grease for the slider pins. All fairly managable to replace in a driveway if you're confident to DIY but sometimes the disks can be difficult enough to remove if seized onto the hub or have a separate hub handbrake.
