Sending a phone for warranty repair vs. new restrictions

    Hello,

November last year I bought a phone from the UK. It was second-hand, but had a warranty. If this matters, I bought from a seller on Amazon; the seller is a UK company.

The phone developed some issues now and the seller told me I can send it back for repairs.

I came to the post office - and was turned away. They said that there are new rules, coming from the Irish Aviation Authority (?), that you can no longer mail mobile phones to a destination outside Ireland.

How can I resolve this, apart from either forgoing the warranty (and taking the phone to a local repair shop) or else finding someone to take it to the UK and mail it from there?

Couriers such as TNT or DHL will take them usually, but it’s expensive.
This isn’t new, it’s in quite a while now, it’s down to the risk posed by lithium ion batteries

The rules are from IATA not the IAA and date back to Jan 1 2017(IIRC). They CAN send them but theyre treated as HAZMAT. AnPost chooses not to offer such a service.

Couriers will take them as White says but expect to pay a fair chunk for the pleasure.
