Problem with phone since adding micro SD card

    Hi,

My wife has a Nokia One Plus android mobile. It had little storage for her music, so I added a micro SD card...I wish I hadn't bothered! I moved music from her phone storage to the SD card, but it hasn't freed up space on her phone. It's still showing 1.4GB of music on her phone storage, even though there is nothing there when try to view the files. Also, when I plug the phone into my laptop it now only shows the SD card folder, and not the phone storage folder, so I cannot go into the phone this way and delete out whatever is causing the problem. I have also removed the SD card, restarted the phone etc, but it makes no difference. I even deleted the music off the SD card, and yet it is now saying that there is 1.4GB of audio files on that!!! Any suggestions?

    Thanks.

Trying clearing the cache of whatever music player you usually use. If the problem persists, try wiping the system cache.

The SD card is unlikely to have caused any issues. Clear the cache . Did you get any options when connecting the phone to the pc to view storage ?

    Thanks for replying guys.

I cleared the cache of the Google Play Music app but it didn't fix it. How do I wipe the system cache?

When I connect the phone to the laptop now (with the SD card removed), it doesn't even show me all the different folders anymore (like DCIM, Music etc), it just shows the main folder Nokia 1 Plus. I don't know what's going on!

When connected, do you see the option on the notification centre?

Hopefully you didn't connect the card as adoptable storage?

    Google it!

It says that there is 1.2 GB of music on the phone, but when I try to view files through Settings/Storage/Audio files, it says no items in this folder. I have even deleted the music off the SD card, and this also shows 1.2 GB of audio, but there are no items in the folder.

Try wiping the system cache as above. Android may think the files are still there because the information is still in the music player app.

Use a file manager (Solid) or Files by Google to browse your directory of files. To locate where they are stored.

I tried wiping the system cache, but it didn't work. I still couldn't see the audio files that were taking up space. I then reformatted the SD card, and I reinstalled it as portable storage. This seems to have worked: I can now see and delete the files that were taking up the 1.2GB of space on both the phone storage and the SD card, and also when I connect the phone to the laptop, there are now two directories, one for the phone, one for the SD card. I don't know why it didn't do this the first time I installed the SD card: I formatted it and installed it as portable storage, just like this time. Maybe wiping the system cache did help? Anyways, fingers crossed, it's sorted! :)

Thanks for all the advice :) Appreciate it.

    Thanks for the update.
I was following this thread and wondered why you couldn't sort it with the information you got.

Now I can walk the dog with a clear mine. :)

Update: everything looked good, so I transferred music onto the SD card. I can see the music, I tried to play it but Google Play gives a playback error, and won't play anything from the SD card. I cleared history/cache/stored data, removed the audio files and them put them back on....still no luck. So I have removed the SD card altogether, and put some music on the phone's internal storage: this plays no problem. I'm back to the beginning but I'm leaving it for the moment; too head-wrecking! Moral of this tale is that no good deed goes unpunished :p:p

Use a dedicated music app instead of Google (i.e. PowerAmp or alternative), that can read from external storage.

Google wants you to use cloud storage.

    Edit: -
Go to Google Play Music's settings, then under Downloading, tap on "Storage location." Choose the external card as your new storage location. Immediately following your selection, any offline music files you had saved on your internal storage will be transferred to the external card.

^^^ Do the above at your own desecration, a dedicated music app is the better alternative.

Cool, I'll try this tomorrow. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks again for taking the trouble to reply.

another thing is that in-built phone storage is way faster than an sd card, impacting performance and in some cases causing malfunctions.

if you're using an old sd card it could be a factor of 30 times or more

you need a modern U1 class or preferably really a U3 class card. the old class 10 thing means nothing and is completely irrelevant at this point.

try a different sd card - maybe the one that you have is corrupted in some way even tho scans may mean it looks ok.

factory reset the phone also maybe.
