I have to go for minor surgery next month. Should take about 4 hours.

Can I book a sick day off rather than using my holidays?

It depends on your employer and often of your relationship with your direct manager.
You should be able to talk with your manager and plan it in and present a sick very afterwards

I’ve seen people approach it different. Book a day holiday, return to work with a cert for the day and your legally entitled to your annual leave back as you were certified sick.

It really does depend on your employer.

I needed surgery, and I requested 3 weeks sick leave. They said no problem.
