    To go 2020

    https://www.theguardian.com/media/2019/sep/16/bbc-to-switch-off-red-button-2020
The BBC is to switch off its Red Button teletext service from the start of next year, the broadcaster has confirmed.

Ceefax, the BBC’s analogue teletext service, finished in October 2012 with the switchover to digital. It was replaced by BBC Red Button, which allowed viewers to read news and sports content on their TVs.

A spokesperson said the service would be stopped in early 2020 as the broadcaster needed to channel resources into “even better internet-based services”.

The closure of the service marks the end of the BBC’s teletext, 45 years after it began as Ceefax – a phonetic take on “see facts” – in 1974.

I can't recall the last time I actually accessed it which I suppose tells the tale.

I use it every day and have done for years. It will be missed and a backwards step.

I just found the red button icon that popped up annoying and made me hit the backup button quickly...

On Freesat it takes an annoyingly long time for the RB icon to appear, during that pause the EPG doesn't work.

You couldn't beat channel 4's text service. The bamboozle quiz was a marvel of interactive entertainment.

The 2rn website still links to Aertel p.169 - this "Page Not Found". Not available on the link posted previously.

It seems RAI don't have the "old is bad" attitude of RTE and BBC

Damn right they are too, nothing wrong with them.

I was never a fan of the "digital text" services though.
