On the lookout for a new used car.

I'm looking to buy a new used car but unsure what type to go for. I don't do a lot of long distance driving but I might if I had a better car.
So basically I'm looking for a car no older than 151, petrol, at least 1.2 litre engine and one that will do a long distance journey comfortably.

I had it in my head that I should go for a bigger car like a Kia Ceed, Ford Focus or VW Golf but a fella I know who knows his cars said that the modern superminis are well able to do long distances comfortably. So that meant I was looking at a Skoda Fabia, Ford Fiesta or VW Polo.
I'm seeing a lot of Opel Corsas for sale for good value.
    My budget is €12,000.

Any advice cos I seem to be going around in circles.
    Thanks

Define long distance? How many miles will you be doing annually? If doing a lot of miles you need to consider comfort and normally the bigger the car the better the comfort.

Long distance being 250km trips both ways etc.
I've done around 15,000km a year for the last two years but I would be probably do more in a bigger car. Basically I've got friends in different parts of the country and want a car that makes visiting them easier.

Consider a bigger car then. Small cars are fine for the occasional long drive but they are still primarily designed for city driving/short commutes. Even moving up to the next class of car would make a big difference to comfort.

I like the look of the Ford Focus but they seem to mainly be in diesel. Does anyone know if the it's suited to petrol?
    Thanks

    What about a Honda Jazz?

It's a bit smaller than the likes of a Focus but is bigger than a Fiesta so probably a good match for what you are looking for. The inside is deceptively roomy for its size and a petrol Jazz would also be probably as reliable as you could wish for in a modern car too.

Not overly keen on the look of it but it's another option. Thanks.

Friend of mine has a petrol 162 Pulsar. He does short journeys mostly and does Cork-tralee and back once a week and loves it.

He gets 2 car seats in the back, the 1.2 turbo is pokey and economical and if you get the top spec, it'll have every toy you want.

I actually think they're one of the best value cars on the road. Was pleasantly surprised when I drove it
