Water tank overflow pipe diameter

I had a leak in the overflow in the attic water tank and had to cut the overflow pipe to reroute it as it was putting pressure on the joint into the tank (this is where it was leaking).

The valve on the ballcock had jammed open so it kept filling up..

The tank is a plastic tank but the overflow pipe is from the '70's and I now can't get a straight coupling joint to join the cut pieces together. The old pipe is likely imperial and all I can get now is metric. Old pipe is wider.

Does anyone know where i might get a suitable connector? Chadwick, Brooks etc don't stock them. May not be able to get one at all in which case I can just replace the overflow in total, but a fix would be easier.
