Just noticed this stuff growing out between alloy wheel and tyre...feels kinda plasticy and is getting frazzled at the edges.

    What is this?

Did someone not remove a protective film properly before fitting the tyre?

Strange thing is, I've cleaned my wheels a good few times before and never noticed this...either because it wasn't there at all or perhaps because the edge wasn't frazzled yet...but really, I think it wasn't there at all before...so, what is it and why is it starting to come out now?

Is it some sort of fabric?

Feels more like plastic than fabric...but could potentially be fabric enforced plastic, kinda lick plastic sacking.

Tyre hasn't lost any pressure btw

Is it something that was on the wheels to stop them scratching when the tyres were put on I wonder

That's what I suspect..some kind of packaging/protective stuff that was stuck in there and is now slowly zentrifuging outward...

Looks like that thick kind of pallet wrap they have on the rim of the wheels when they come out of the box new. Probably not removed totally when the tyres were going on.

I'll happily pop it off and see what it is. Just for curiosity sake
