Anyone know why we now have a lack of music channels on Sky? I remember a few years back there were upward of 25/30 channels. All in SD now too.

I purposely didn't post this in the ask sky section as was looking for a proper answer 😅

All the Bauer ones (The Box, Kerrang, KISS etc) which I believe are now owned by Channel 4 were removed from the Irish sky epg for whatever reason. They are still on the UK epg and can be tuned in on other channels.

It all went to sh*t since Scuzz shut down. MTV Rocks is awful.

I would expect because the channel owners did not see sufficient benefit from paying Sky for the privilege of being on the Sky EPG.

The beginning of the end was around 1998 when MTV Europe split up into regional MTV, not long after that MTV stopped playing music. Then came the limited playlists and on screen graphics telling us what songs come next, no more surprises. I haven't watched a music channel on Sky in over 10 years.

If people want to watch music videos nowadays whether its alone or in a social situation they'll probably just chromecast youtube.

MTV Europe disappeared for Cork people in the early 90s so I can't remember it all too well only there was a lot of Meat Loaf and Peter Gabriel. MTV UK wasn't bad in that they had a couple of good alternative shows on at night. VH1 wasn't bad in the 90's either. The early days of Sky Digital from about the turn of the century onwards for about 5 years was pretty good for choice. MTV2 was good for a while. I remember a channel called The Amp which put on good stuff too.
