I have bales beside an open shed I am feeding a few calf’s I am weaning in it. Crows are destroying the bales on average 20 bales a day being picked. Any suggestions that have worked in past are welcome

    Tyres with netting on top.

I would prefer rat poison the dirty things. Thats a good idea tyres under the netting

It's the meal in the shed that's attracting them, but I guess you know that. A neighbour of mine has the same problem. He told me he was getting netting this year.

That would be illegal and dangerous to non-target species - just shoot one and hang it up along with netting the area

Works for me when it comes to similar situations

I heard of people putting a blob of grease on bales to stop birds attacking them. The grease was supposed to look like the dropping off a bigger bird never tried it myself but could be worth a try

Its the smell and texture of the greese that puts the birds off

I'd agree with hanging a dead one around the shed....It might keep the rotten things away from the meal too, and stop them from covering everything in ****......

Yea I know it’s illegal to poison them and you have think about the next animal that might eat them. I will have to go hunting for nets I think

Had crows attack bales stacked beside yard for no apparent reason.

Have an old reel from a vhs tape and I ran three runs over them. It constantly twists and jumps in slightest breeze and no problems since.

The tyres and netting would be the best, a cheaper option that may help would be the vhs tape and also tying up some CD,s would help as it flickers

Waste of time and grease, been there done that.

I had crows tearing meal bags at the start of the year in an open shed so one morning I took out the shotgun and shot two crows and hung them up in the shed bit one crow seen around the place since.

The dead crow thing definitely works.
It was done here in desperation years ago by my father.

I just don’t like it though, it’s clartty looking at best.

It neither the bird dropping idea or the smell. It's the risk of getting it on there feathers. If birds get even a little grease or oil on there feathers it will kill the molasses on ration in troughs helps prevent them as well

However the grease will damage the vales over time as well as it attacks the plastic
