BMW warranty on UK import

What is the current situation on imported BMWs?

I read a uk document that said its 2 years warranty from new with the 3rd year being a dealer warranty and valid only as long as the car remains registered in uk.

Now that last bit is a new one on me. Up to now, I always thought if the Irish dealers wouldn't honor the 3rd year that worst case would be to take the car to the north and have the work done. If the country of registration is an issue, that may not work out too well.

Are people seeing 3rd year being honoured here or what is the story?

I just brought in a 2017 I3 and I have everything transferred to the local dealer fine.
    Warranty Outside UK.
Every new vehicle supplied by an Authorised BMW Centre in the UK carries a 36 month BMW Retailer Warranty. This warranty commences on the original registration date of your vehicle. During the first 24 months, should your vehicle need to be repaired under warranty within the United Kingdom or outside of the United Kingdom, it may be taken to any Authorised BMW Centre or BMW Service Authorised Workshop. The repair will be carried out under the terms and conditions of the warranty, provided you can show the vehicle is still within the 24 month warranty period. This can easily be done for example by producing the service booklet where appropriate and showing the FREE PRE-DELIVERY INSPECTION box stamped by the supplying Authorised BMW Centre.

I've had warranty work done here by BMW in year 3 of a UK import. It's been a few years since I've had to do it so unless things have chanced since then. BMW Ireland and BMW UK are the same distributor so it's different to the likes of Audi UK and Audi Ireland who are different entities.

Its the 3rd year I'm concerned about.
Are you into 3rd year yet?

I did ring BMW Ireland about warranty on my UK import and they said the full 3 years apply here. Maybe no harm giving them a ring as well to check.

Get in before end of October as god knows what will happen.
If it’s 530e you’re looking at they do seem to be a bargain from UK alright.

I'd be doing it before the budget as one of the kite flying stories going around is that the vrt rebates on EVs and hybrids maybe going or reduced.

ya ive heard that re the vrt.
It looks like a 2018 530e is possible for low 30s from uk.
Im looking for white interior which cuts down the options a lot though.

I had the exact same query recently and BMW told me on the phone the 3rd year is valid here as its manufacturers warranty. Confirmed same via an email. Give them a ring if you want.

What kind of warranty do BMW give you on cars in the UK? For instance the Irish dealers will give you 2 years on a 2017 car. Will the UK dealers give you the same 2 years and will it transfer over here? Thinking a 330e.

Only 1 year of the BMW UK 2 year AUC warranty transfers to Ireland afaik. You can take out an extended warranty at your own expense beyond that if you want - www.bmw-warranty.ie
