Opinions on Interview Process

    Hi all,

Have been going through the interview process for a role on a global team. It’s involved detailed Psychometric assessment, followed by a 1.5 hour interview/assessment. I got a call yesterday from the lady who interviewed me telling me I was on a shortlist from interviews and asking if I would be available for the Director to give me a 15-20 minute call to get to know me. I had that call today and essentially just went through my education/professional experience. It was fairly innocuous, not a grilling or anything like that. He asked if I had any questions at this point, and then talked to me about career progression within the company.

I got no inclination as to how I’d done in the process throughout, and no further info from the call. What would ye read into it?

Most likely, they were gauging for cultural fit, or for a senior/2nd opinion to the hiring manager.

Some of the US multinationals do take the pee with these kind of calls though. I had seven interviews for a fairly bog standard content management role at one of these. And the last two calls were very casual chats. It can’t be a great use of a senior US person’s time though, especially if there a couple of layers between you. I have heard of 11 interview rounds for senior roles at PayPal, for example.

I agree on both, the VP/Senior Director is really just a culture thing, but its the vogue thing to do these days especially for US companies. I think a lot of them are just ticking the "we've put this person through the 5 step process" box.

Generally, you wouldn't get a call from the director unless they were taking your application seriously and thought you could work.

I think you can be hopeful.
