Hi, have an oil fired boiler and looking for the (preferably) cheapest option for the ability to turn on/off heating via my phone. Looked at the electric Ireland site and seen climote which seems good but might be over kill for what i need, as i've no interest in different heating zones (for now) plus the thermostat is outside on the boiler and rarely adjusted while my timer /on off switch is inside the house.

The heating system in the house is relatively old and will need upgrading in a few years but for now just interested in a way of gaining remote access.

Getting the piping zoned (3 zones) and a Hive control (which works with an app) cost me a tenner after the SEAI discounts. And I didn't have to do the work.

Was there much work involved in that ?

If you want simple anc cheap there are plenty of inline wifi relays available. Simple on/off functionality though

Any names or brands ? I'd ideally be looking for someone to fit - heating and plumbing is not my thing.

I switched to airtricity & got the climote installed for free & got Amazon alexa speakers free with it. The tariff is more expensive over the year but not more than the freebies would cost.
It's very easy to use but there is also a 19/year fee for climate for the remote access after the first year. They also gave me 2 wireless thermostats for each zone.

I use one of these. Broke the live in the distribution board (if you're not handy at all you could get a Sparks to do it. Should take them 5 minutes).

Have an app on my phone, provides basic on off, scheduled on off and timed on off, dead handy and really cheap. Think I bought from Banggood or AliExpress.

Wifi plug - if you have one lying around, will provide the same function as the aforementioned sonoff switch.
