    Hi all,

Have a small bit of land (14 acres - 3 of it planted) and we are getting a few bits and pieces more for hobby farming and to get the kids out as much as anything else. Anyone recommendations for a nice quiet sheep breed? I'd say we'll only get 5/6 ewes max.

Always found Suffolks quiet, have had a few texel kinda ones as well, and they seem grand. Whilst breed plays a big part, its as much to do with how much human interaction they have as well...

If its more for a hobby and the kids, I would suggest finding a farmer to buy from and buying quiet sheep, rather than sheep of any particular breed.

If you wanted to put up your location, maybe some one here could help or point you in the right direction.

Are you planning to put the ewes in young, or just have em as pets?

    Based in East Clare.

I'll get the ewes in lamb ideally, I'd have a shed for them when needed. Good call re the quiet stock.

I'd try to approach a local farmer, and tell him your story.

It would be good to have support, plus with only a few sheep, it would be useful for you if you could team up with them for some jobs, such as scanning & shearing (There is a lad brings his sheep into our yard for shearing every year, cos he only has a few)

I have suffolk texel cross and they are very placid......

But i fully agree it has more to do with the sheep interaction with humans rather than the breed, roughly speaking !
