Why is sleep from a lie in so much better than sleep from an early night?

Why is sleep from a lie in so much better than sleep from an early night?

There must be some study out there to explain why.

I thought this was supposed to end at puberty? Teens naturally want to sleep late and go to bed late.

I wake at around 7am every morning. If I lie in at weekends (later than 10am) I will feel like shïit for the day with zero energy and tired.

Even if I didn’t go to bed till 3am, I’d still wake at 7am and would be fine for the day.

If I go to bed early (before 11am, I normally go to bed at 12) then I’ll wake around 3am and won’t be able to go back to sleep for at least 2-3hrs and then wake naturally at 7am and feel like **** for the day.

My bedtime is midnight and rise at 7am. Anything either side of those throws me off completely.

Because you are too close to men. There was once a custom where women slept outside in the shed and stayed away from the men during period.

The activists changed this and now they can’t sleep.

If you're not out of the bed by 5 AM you may as well stay in it - the days more or less gone by then.

The show usually starts around seven
We go on stage at nine
Get on the bus at eleven
Sippin' a drink and feelin' fine
    We been dancin' with
    Mr. Brownstone
    He's been knockin'
    He won't' leave me alone
    No, no, no
    He won't leave me alone

The best sleep is that where no alarm clock is set.

I'd often go for a snooze in the office in the afternoon, especially if I'm feeling peaky after overindulging on the porter the night before. I even bought a little fold-out camping bed for such a scenario.

Could you define “early”? Some people on here think 10:30pm is a normal bed time.

I couldn’t imagine what it’s like when they decide to have an “early” night...evening.

I'd sleep in till half 1 or 2pm on a Saturday and sunday just to catch up on the lost sleep from midweek

I'd be watching stuff and on the phone till 2am every night

I get up when I want except on Wednesdays when I get rudely awakened by the dustmen

If you have a later chronotype then going to bed early feels a bit unnatural and a lie in more natural to your particular biological clock.

Later chronotypes will enjoy staying up later and relish a lie in, earlier ones will probably feel de-energized and drained if they stay in bed beyond their natural waking point.

If you have an earlier chronotype then earlier bedtimes and earlier waking times feels better. It's not a mystery.

Lie ins aren't on my radar at all. The only time I don't get up early is if I'm hungover. Otherwise I'm awake at around 630 or 7 every morning. It's great, I get so much done these days. I'm 39 though I think I used to have sober lie ins when I was younger, but still not very late.

I often set a 5am alarm on days I don’t have to be up at any particular time just so get to relish that “back to sleep, thanks be to Jesus” moment as the face goes back into the pillow...

I don't really notice. It's just the amount of hours and quality of sleep I get.

Went to bed at 8 the other night. Had about 10 hours of really good deep sleep and usually only get around 6 or 7. It was amazing.

Never feel great if I have a lie in TBH always feel a bit groggy.

Need a least 8 hours sleep and if not I'm basically a write off for the day.

Hate these sanctimonious people who are up at 6 or 7, they tend to be all cheery and God forbid, have a damn radio on. Fair enough if you have to be up for a long commute, kids or whatever but they seem to have this attitude that if your not up by half 6 you're basically a waster.

Obviously never did nights/evenings or shift work.

Honestly, I get my best sleep if I got to bed at ten and read (not a screen) for an hour or so. Most important thing, I think, is keeping a rhythm, which I’m rubbish at and so feeling tired today.

Some people are more flexible and can adapt to later or earlier schedules. The majority lean towards one or other end of the scale.

I am one of those annoyingly perky early risers who irritate every one else so much. I've no plans to rule the world. Not this year, anyway.

I was only joking really. I think most people stay up late and then feel wrecked the next day these days.

I hate going to bed to early.
I have tried it and I'd wake up in the middle of the night in a terrible panic.

They say CBD stuff is good for it.

    its' not for me.

I feel great early to bed and up early. A lie in makes me feel groggy when I wake
