Car Insurance cover

My wife and I have two car insurance policies. She is on my policy but I am not on hers.

Both policies have open driving included.

I regularly drive my wife's car to work and other places. Is there any clause in insurance contracts that prohibits this use of open driving?

Firstly open driving is a specific add on allows anyone subject to certain restrictions, to drive your car. Apologies if this is actually the case, most people get this confused.

I assume in this case you mean third party extension? Whereby the insured party can drive another car not owned by them. However, if this is the case, this does not apply to you. You cannot use third party extension to drive your wife's car as you have an insurable interest.

But as you are married you can be a named driver on her policy and vice versa.

BTW if you do actually mean open driving, and this is your only reason for having it, it is ok to use like this, but probably cheaper for you both just to be named drivers on each others policies, as open driving usually costs a lot.
